Welcome to Computer Science!

We are a close-knit community of engaged students and faculty who use active learning to foster communication and collaboration. Our computer science program will prepare students for the workforce and graduate school. Our active alumni network talks to our majors about careers after Wooster and contacts us about job opportunities.

For the latest announcements, check out the MCS Students team.

We host community-building events like:

  • Research colloquia with guest speakers from Google, Microsoft, etc.
  • Hackathons
  • Programming competitions
  • Google Code Club meetings, including technical resume workshops and coding interview practice
  • Game nights and departmental picnics

We offer resources for students, including:

  • Our Development Lab equipped with high-performance computers and virtual reality systems for projects.
  • Access to the Ohio Supercomputer Center
  • The CS STEM Zone for peer mentorship and course assistance.

Students are encouraged to extend classroom learning through:

  • A year-long independent study guided by faculty mentor.
  • The Applied Methods and Research Experience (AMRE) enables paid collaborations as software developer consultants for clients like the NSA and Goodyear. AMRE boosts competitiveness for summer programs such as the National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates.
  • APEX Fellowships provide financial support and mentorship for internships.
  • The Sophomore Research Program hires students as paid research assistants on projects involving software ecosystems, machine learning, virtual reality, and eye-tracking.
  • Opportunities to publish and present research at conferences.
